Gillette Parker Pen Acquisition

Southport Partners represented Gillette in the acquisition of Parker Pen.

Gillette owned Waterman, a fierce rival in the fine writing instrument market, and wanted Parker as well. When Schroder Ventures prepared a sale process, Southport Partners worked with Gillette to pre-empt the auction with a compelling $585 million offer. After antitrust scrutiny, the courts rejected the narrow “fine writing instrument” market theory and the transaction proceeded.
